There is no denying that winter is here. With subzero temperatures, snow and ice it's no time to find yourself unprepared in an emergency situation. We have compiled a list of must have items to ensure safety through the winter months, as we dream of warmer weather.

For the Car:

  • Extra hat, coat, gloves and a blanket to stay warm

  • Good pair of snow boots. If not your every day wear, be sure to have a good warm boot that you can walk in through snow and ice

  • Phone charger

  • Water and snacks

  • First aid kit

  • Flashlight

  • Windshield scraper

  • Shovel to dig out of snow, if car gets stuck

  • Sand, kitty litter, or road salt to help with tire traction if stuck

  • Tire chains

  • Spare tire or fix a flat

  • Booster cables

  • Hazard reflectors or flares

For the Home

  • Week's worth of nonperishable foods

  • Bottled water (1 gallon/person for a 5 day period is recommended)

  • Full/extra pet food

  • Full/extra supply of any necessary medications

  • Flashlight and extra batteries

  • Battery powered radio

  • First aid kit

  • Generator

  • Extra blankets, warm clothing or alternative heating source in case of power outage

It is a good idea to take inventory and stock up at the threat of storms. Better safe then sorry :)
